By: Kristel Rae Samson

In a movie industry, we need to try something new and special to everyone. Just like the movie “Pamahiin” and “Sukob”, we know that these two movies were superstitions portrayal. Let me first elaborate the movie Pamahiin, or in English Superstitious in Filipino, the film showcases the different superstitions about death. The story revolves around the three childhood friends namely Noah (Dennis Trillo), Eileen (Iya Villania) and Damian (Paolo Contis). Where Damian commits suicide, Noah and Eileen don’t believed at all, they flew back to Philippines and see it for themselves. From this mysteries happened. As Becca (Marian Rivera) and her mother Aling Belinda (Jaclyn Jose), Becca is a shy girl and became a town outcast because of the ability of her mother being witchcraft. Noah don’t believe in superstitions for he grew in other country, as the story goes, mysteries revealed and Noah and his girlfriend Eileen, after all the things happened, as Noah felt haunting him, he then believed it. Pamahiin was directed by Rahyan Carlos.

Sukob, or the Wedding curse for international, superstitions for wedding believed by the Filipino. This film revolves around the sisters Sandy (Kris Aquino) and Diana (Claudine Barreto). The film's premise is based on a Filipino superstition in which one should not get married in the same year an immediate relative dies or is married. At first they didn’t know that they are sisters, but later on they will know. Sacrifices happened in this film. As Sandy’s and Diana’s friends and relatives die, they noticed something happening, the things used in their wedding was lost too, signifies that one wedding symbol signifies that one friend or relative of them was died. Joya (Maja Salvador) helped them a lot in solving these mysterious happenings. She said the only thing that will help them to stop the cursed or “sukob” is to find each other and one should sacrifice to end this cursed. Sukob was directed by Chito Rono.

By: Kristel Rae Samson
Despicable Me is movie that every one of us needs to watch. This movie is interesting to watch, one of its characteristics are funny yet serious. Gru is a bad guy, the world’s former number one supervillain, who orphans the three girls to use them for his evil plan. Gru made a plan that he wants to be “the man who stole the moon” but before he can do it, he orphaned the three girls namely Margo the oldest girl in the group, Edith the middle girl in the group and Agnes the youngest in the group, from the very start she loved Gru. I personally like Gru’s house, a dead black house, but his neighbours don’t know that inside the dead black house was Gru’s hideout, and his little cute armies Minions which are tiny yellow-pill shaped creatures in overalls and goggles. He used the three orphaned girls to sell cookies to Vector, without knowing that Gru placed a cookie robot shaped to enter Vector’s place.

He intended to used the three orphaned girls to be his eyes for Vector but he used to cared for them and loved them. As the story goes by, Gru lived with Margo, Edith and Agnes and become happy family, while Vector, the younger villain, was stranded on the moon with a minion. After years of neglecting by his mom, she tells her son that she was proud of him finally. Later he become an adoptive father of the three girls.

the expendables

by Mike Angeles
Blowing up vampires, working with all stars, and the trashtalking terminator…
Arming up
What happens when you put the most popular action stars of yesterday and today in one movie? Then you get a movie capable of blowing up vampires and werewolves. The Expendables promised to be a movie to look after when the trailer first aired on youtube and other video sites, when the day that was August 13, 2010 came, the movie kept its promise and became the number one movie in America. Blowing up the other competition like the faggy and overrated vampire mush series Eclipse and the three hour juggernaut Inception. Stallone stars as Barney Ross, a leader of a group of elite mercenaries hired by government agencies to take on impossible missions. The story unfolds when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) hires Stallone to infiltrate a south american country run by a rouge ex CIA-slash-NBI agent (Eric Roberts) and a tyrant named General Garza. Ross is then left to choose between his crew and a local girl who might be his key in gaining a little good in his soul.

Its worth watching…
Because its basically every action fans wet dream. An all star cast starring the best of the best on the action scene. The intense and exhillirating scenes will keep you on the edge of your seat, if that’s how the cliché states it. If you grew up watching Rambo, The Transporter, or if you’re an Mixed Martial Arts or Wrestling fan, then this movie is definitely worth every peso on your wallet.

You wont like it…
If you expect a story within the flying fists, knives, and bullets, then this movie is not for you. Taking the cast into consideration, the gravity of stars have clearly shown a drawback in character establishments. Peter Travis a writer for The Rolling Stone magazine said and I quote “Stallone forgets to include non-spazzy direction, a coherent plot, dialogue that actors can speak without cringing, stunts that don't fizzle, blood that isn't digital and an animating spirit that might convince us to give a damn." We agree because I for one labeled it like John Rambo, the latest installment on Sly’s Rambo saga.
